About Course

Looking for more information about medicine? Join us at the Free Get Into Medicine Conference.

This programme is comprised of six sessions which will follow six different patient pathways.

This will give you a broad overview of healthcare from the medical, surgical and general practice perspectives, and will demonstrate the breadth of specialties offered within a medical career.

Each session will also focus on the different skills, values and quality of care domains required by a doctor, knowledge of which is essential to demonstrate throughout your application, in both your personal statement and in your interview.

The programme has been designed as a spiral curriculum where each month you will acquire new knowledge, as well as building on what you have learnt from the previous sessions, all to help maximise and consolidate your learning.

This months session covers Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The work experience will be available from 08/09/2025 to 06/10/2025

This work experience was originally aired live 19/12/2020

It gave me a good insight into difference between the roles of an obstetrician and a gynaecologist. I also learnt about the importance of communication and listening skills when taking a patient's history and new terminologies like ICE and gestational diabetes which I went on to research and read more about.

It was quite eye opening to see a women's entire journey into labour and to witness the many specialists and doctors involved in which they all are able to work together as a team while playing specialised roles. It was incredibly useful and I have made pages of notes which just shows the vast amount of knowledge that is carried. I am sure its just as helpful for others and I am excited to progress through all the work experiences provided!

I was not expecting to get much out of this work experience but I actually learnt a lot from it. For example I never knew there were so many steps with doctors when going through pregnancy, I always thought you go when your having complications, at the beginning of the pregnancy and when you start getting contractions. It was really interesting to learn how midwifes have special equipment to actually move the baby into position and how the NHS look after a women during pregnancy and after with her mental health. It was also interesting to learn that even if somebody has an illness like schizophrenia then they are still able to become pregnant while still caring for their health.

The clinical setting is fabulous and realistic that I learn lots of communication skills in Obstetrics & Gynaecology settings. Sometimes, it is hard to know the conversation but I can hear it clearly after replaying it. Some of the questions and answers are great for me to dwell on to improve my interview. Overall, it is fantastic and thanks for making this programme

Throughout the course, I felt like I could talk about the medications and feelings to the patient. I enjoyed how at the start, the process was a little bit tense even though there was laughter often, but at the end, everything just cooled down. It was like I was with the patient in her journey from visiting the hospital to delivery which was quite an enjoyable experience for me.

It was definitely a good course for me. I did child development for GCSE. Having a virtual representation of all that I had previously learnt and more as well as having that focus into the aspect of medicine and how professionals tend to both the mother and child during pregnancy and child birth is worthwhile.
Amazing experience would definitely recommend only downside is any of the recordings when they are in the hospital the audio is very bad and is very hard to make out what’s being said if captions were available would be a better experience.

It was an amazing simulation that offered a really deep insight into medicine as well as the roles of doctors within a team and the autonomy patient has over their treatment plan

I think this course was really good and very informative and gave much insight into the lives of the Obs & Gyn teams. However, the audio was quite unclear most of the time which was a bit disappointing.
